Strengthening Connections and Navigating Change: Highlights from the 2026 Mid-Atlantic Regional Gathering

On June 12, fiscal sponsorship practitioners from across the Mid-Atlantic gathered in Philadelphia for a day of learning, collaboration, and community at the 2026 Mid-Atlantic Regional Gathering. Co-hosted by the National Network of Fiscal Sponsors (NNFS) and Global Impact Ventures, the event welcomed 35 participants representing organizations across the region, creating space for candid conversations about the opportunities and challenges shaping fiscal sponsorship today.

Held at BEX in downtown Philadelphia, the gathering reinforced what makes regional convenings so valuable: bringing peers together to exchange practical knowledge, strengthen relationships, and build a more connected field.

A Look at the Field

Following opening remarks and participant introductions, attendees heard a plenary presentation from Thaddeus Squire, Founder and Chief Commons Steward of Social Impact Commons, who provided an overview of the current fiscal sponsorship landscape and the broader nonprofit environment.

The presentation explored the rapid evolution of the field, highlighting emerging trends, shifting funding dynamics, and the increasing importance of collaboration and infrastructure in supporting mission-driven work. Participants also discussed how fiscal sponsors are responding to growing demand while navigating uncertainty across the philanthropic and policy landscape.

Conversations Rooted in Practice

Throughout the afternoon, participants joined facilitated breakout discussions focused on some of the most pressing issues facing fiscal sponsors today. Sessions covered:

  • Compliance challenges and emerging best practices

  • Revenue models, funding, and long-term sustainability

  • Regional policy and advocacy developments

  • Marketing and messaging strategies for fiscal sponsors

  • Data, technology, and operational innovation

These conversations created opportunities for participants to compare approaches, share lessons learned, and explore practical solutions with peers facing similar challenges. While each organization brings its own model and context, common themes emerged around adapting to change, strengthening organizational resilience, and continuing to center service to projects and communities.

Building a Stronger Network

Beyond the formal sessions, the gathering provided valuable time for relationship-building over lunch and throughout the day. New connections were made, existing partnerships were strengthened, and attendees left with fresh ideas they could bring back to their organizations.

Regional gatherings continue to play an important role in NNFS's commitment to fostering peer learning and supporting a vibrant, collaborative fiscal sponsorship ecosystem. As the field evolves, opportunities to learn directly from one another remain among our greatest strengths.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in Philadelphia and to our co-host, Global Impact Ventures, for helping make the day possible - and to every participant who contributed openly to the conversations.

We look forward to continuing these discussions at future events and gatherings as we work together to strengthen the practice of fiscal sponsorship.
